For six weeks the question was arithmetic. Will it stretch to the end of the month, how much should I charge, can I take Thursday off without feeling like I stole something.
From the middle of September a different sentence starts running in the background. Not "will I have enough," but "am I even allowed to want this."
That is not a mood swing. On 18 September 2026 Chiron — the point in a chart that marks your oldest sore spot — steps back out of Taurus into Aries and stays there until 6 January 2027. When the sign changes, the question you argue with yourself about changes too.
What shifts on 18 September
This transit does not deliver events. It changes the argument you keep having in your own head. There are four scenes that give it away.
A want shows up and instantly turns into a request for permission. You want to go, to leave, to start, to call. And in the same second something inside asks whether it is convenient, whether it is too early, who you think you are. The want does not disappear. It simply never reaches the point of action.
You start apologising for arriving. For calling at a bad time, for a long message, for taking fifteen minutes of someone's day. Where you used to apologise for your price, now you apologise for being in the room at all.
Anger shows up and hides again immediately. Something genuinely bothers you, but saying it out loud feels shameful, so the anger converts into tiredness that sleep does not fix. Aries anger is fuel. Ban it, and the engine runs on fumes.
The work is stuck at the idea stage. Not halfway, not at the difficult part — right at the beginning. You have not opened that folder in a month and you explain it to yourself as being busy. What is actually unstarted is the thing that would have been frightening to start.
There is a reverse test that makes this easy to spot. If in August the sentence in your head was "they will never pay me that much," and by late September it has become "I feel awkward asking at all" — nothing has gone wrong with you. Chiron changed signs.
Why a planet goes back into a sign it already left
Chiron moves slowly, and for part of every year it appears to travel backwards as seen from Earth. Its retrograde phase began on 3 August 2026, and on 18 September it carries the planet back across the sign boundary into the final degrees of Aries.
In plain language: a subject you had filed as finished comes back for revision. It is not a punishment and not a setback — it is closer to work that was accepted on condition, with a note asking for one more paragraph.
One more detail explains how the period feels. Across all five months of this retrograde Chiron covers less than five degrees, from 0°52′ Taurus back to 26°16′ Aries. It is not really travelling; it is pacing a very narrow strip of sky. Which is why the same thought keeps coming round: in this stretch, everything genuinely does come back.
The narrow zone: the last degrees of Aries
A transit works by degree, not by the whole sign. Between 18 September and 6 January, Chiron occupies the stretch from the 26th to the 30th degree of Aries — less than a fifth of the sign.
So it does not touch every Aries. It touches people who have something in their chart sitting in that exact zone. There are three ways to check.
By birth date. The Sun passes through the last degrees of Aries roughly between 16 and 20 April. If you were born in those days, your Sun sits exactly where Chiron is now walking, and this will not be background weather for you — it will be the main subject of the autumn.
By planets in late Aries. The Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Saturn — anything at 26°–30° Aries receives a contact. A contact simply means a moving planet has arrived at the precise degree where something stands in your chart. That is when the old theme gets loudest.
By the angles of your chart. An Ascendant or Midheaven in late Aries gives the same theme, but it shows up most clearly in how you present yourself and how others read you. This is where an accurate birth time matters: without it, the angles are only approximate.
There is also a mirror zone — the last degrees of Libra, Cancer and Capricorn. Points there form tense angles to Chiron and deliver the same subject from the outside: through a partner, through family, through work.
Three steps to check this in your own chart
Step 1. Find which house holds Aries in your chart. A house is an area of life: money, home, work, intimacy. The sign tells you what the wound is about; the house tells you where you meet it. If you have never located your houses, start with how to read your natal chart.
Step 2. Look for anything at 26°–30° Aries. If something is there, note which planet it is. The Moon brings the theme through how you treat yourself and the people closest to you, Mercury through speech, Venus through worth and love, Mars through anger and the right to act.
Step 3. Think back to late December 2025 and spring 2026. Chiron already crossed this zone moving forward. If a story from then was left unsaid, that is most likely the one coming back.
In the Eira app, Chiron is covered in the karmic-tasks section: where exactly this point sits in your chart, what it means and how its theme sounds in your life. The calculation runs from your date, time and place of birth, and it is free during the trial.
What to do before 6 January
Finish the sentence. The most common loss of this period is the half-said "never mind, it's fine." It is not fine. One sentence carried to the end each week moves more than a month of thinking about it.
Start small and start badly. Aries does not heal through preparation, it heals through the first move. A one-page draft, a two-minute call, a single workout. Quality is beside the point here; the point is that it has begun.
Separate anger from guilt. A useful question is: what exactly am I angry about? The answer is almost always specific — a sentence, a delay, a promise that was not kept. Once anger has a name, it stops being evidence that something is wrong with you.
Notice where you already help other people with this very thing. People are usually best at giving what they never received. That is the other side of Chiron, and it works with no mysticism involved.
Things worth avoiding: do not set your price or make money decisions at the peak of that thought, do not demand that you "deal with your trauma" by January, and do not go looking for an external event to explain how you feel. The cause is not out there.
What this means for your sign
Read by your Ascendant, or by your Sun sign if you do not know your birth time. Each entry gives the house the theme moves into, one scene that makes it recognisable, and one action to take before January.
Aries
Aries falls in your first house — which is to say, in you. The scene: you catch yourself apologising for walking into the room. The action: once a week, say "I want" without adding "but it's not urgent."
Taurus
Aries lands in the twelfth house, the part nobody sees. The scene: everything looks fine from outside, and at one in the morning you are replaying the same conversation. The action: write that sentence down on paper. Written down, it stops being your thought and turns back into somebody's old remark.
Gemini
The eleventh house — friends and circles. The scene: in company you get the feeling that you are tolerated rather than chosen. The action: check who you messaged first this month and who messaged you first. A fact is more useful than a feeling.
Cancer
The tenth house — work and reputation. The scene: it seems people value the output rather than you, and you want to take on one more project to prove you are needed. The action: take on nothing new "to prove it" before January.
Leo
The ninth house — beliefs and the right to say them out loud. The scene: you have a view and you keep quiet, because who are you to have it. The action: say it once, in the room where you normally stay silent.
Virgo
The eighth house — trust, other people's money, dependence. The scene: you are owed something and asking feels awkward. The action: name the amount out loud, and name the date. One sentence, no explanations.
Libra
The seventh house — partnership. The scene: someone close says an ordinary thing and for a second you are fourteen. The action: say "that hurt" instead of "it's fine." That is the whole step.
Scorpio
The sixth house — routine, work, the body. The scene: "I am needed as long as I am useful," and rest feels like a debt. The action: one day off with no usefulness in it. Nothing finished, nothing optimised.
Sagittarius
The fifth house — creativity and love. The scene: something you made with your own hands is sitting there, shown to nobody. The action: show it to one person before January. Not an audience — one person.
Capricorn
The fourth house — home and roots. The scene: you answer someone close in a parent's exact tone of voice, and you hear yourself do it. The action: identify whose voice it is. After that it loses most of its power.
Aquarius
The third house — speech and the people immediately around you. The scene: the feeling of not being heard in a thread with a colleague, a brother, a sister. The action: do not trail off mid-sentence, and do not replace the sentence with an emoji.
Pisces
The second house — money and your own worth. The scene: the moment you have to name a price, and your hand writes a smaller one. The action: set the number once and leave it alone until January.
The dates, briefly
Chiron is retrograde from 3 August 2026 to 6 January 2027. It stays in Taurus until 18 September and spends the rest of the phase in the final degrees of Aries. It turns direct on 6 January 2027 at 26°16′ Aries and returns to Taurus in mid-April 2027, that time for a long stay. For the wider picture of the month, see the September 2026 horoscope for all signs. The full walk-through of the whole retrograde is in Chiron retrograde 2026: Taurus, then Aries again.
Frequently asked questions
What is Chiron in a natal chart? Chiron is a small body orbiting between Saturn and Uranus, discovered in 1977. Astrology reads it as the point of oldest vulnerability — the place where you once decided how much you counted, and have been stress-testing that verdict ever since. It is called the wounded healer because the theme stops aching at the moment you start helping others with the very thing nobody helped you with.
Why is Chiron leaving Taurus when he only just arrived? Because it barely arrived — less than a degree in — and then turned around. A first pass into a new sign often looks like this: the planet glances in, reverses out, and only truly settles on the next attempt. For Chiron, that attempt is April 2027.
My software still shows Chiron in Taurus. Which is right? Probably both. Chiron is a small body rather than a planet, and different calculations place him slightly differently. A day or two of disagreement around a sign change is normal and does not change what the period is about.
Does this only concern Aries people? No. Your Sun sign decides which theme is loudest, but the transit lands on anyone with a point at 26°–30° Aries, whatever their Sun sign. And everybody has a house that contains Aries — that house is what tells you which part of life this shows up in.
What happens on 6 January? Chiron turns direct at 26°16′ Aries. Nothing visible happens on the day, but the period gains a direction: what has been circling for months usually gets a continuation after the turn — a conversation, a decision, a project that finally moves.
Does this period have to be hard? No. Astrology describes the weather, not the script. Someone with nothing in that zone will barely notice these months; someone with their Sun or Moon there will find it the main subject of their autumn. The difference is visible in the chart, not in the sign.
