Chiron retrograde 2026: Taurus, then Aries again

Chiron turned retrograde in Taurus on August 3, 2026, but from September 18 it backs into Aries and stays there until January 6. What surfaces, and what helps.

Chiron retrograde 2026: Taurus, then Aries again

There's a thought that arrives at two in the morning. The same one for years, word for word.

The next five months may turn out to be about exactly that.

On August 3, 2026, Chiron turned retrograde in Taurus at 0°52′, and it keeps moving backwards until January 6, 2027.

It won't spend that whole stretch in Taurus, though. On September 18 Chiron slips back into Aries and reverses through that sign for the rest of the phase. The 2026 retrograde runs along the border between two signs — and the border decides who it touches, and when.

What Chiron is, and why it's called a wound

In astrology, Chiron marks the oldest point of vulnerability. Not trauma in the clinical sense — rather the place where you once decided what you're worth, and have been testing that verdict ever since.

This point has a peculiarity: it never fully heals. It stops hurting at the moment you start helping others with the very thing nobody helped you with.

That's why Chiron is called the wounded healer, not simply the wound.

How retrograde Chiron differs from direct

Direct Chiron works through events. You were underpaid. You weren't chosen. Someone said out loud the thing you were afraid to hear. It hurts — but at least the source is obvious.

Retrograde Chiron works with no events at all. Nothing happens. You're washing dishes and remembering a sentence said to you at fourteen. Nobody touched the subject today — yet the subject is loud.

This is more disorienting than open conflict: it feels like it came out of nowhere, which is easy to read as "something is wrong with me." In truth, periods like this simply have no external noise, so you finally hear what was always playing.

The 2026 retrograde straddles the Aries–Taurus line

Chiron is slow: it normally takes years to cross a single sign. In 2026 it happens to sit right on the seam between Aries and Taurus, and over five retrograde months it visits both.

  • June 2026 — Chiron enters Taurus for the first time.
  • August 3, 2026 — it turns around at 0°52′ Taurus, less than a degree into the new sign.
  • September 18, 2026 — Chiron drops back into Aries, into the sign's very last degrees.
  • January 6, 2027 — it turns forward again at 26°16′ Aries.
  • Mid-April 2027 — Chiron re-enters Taurus, this time to stay.

In plain terms: retrograde Chiron spends six and a half weeks in Taurus and the remaining three and a half months at the end of Aries. From mid-September the theme turns towards different people — not those with something in the first degree of Taurus, but those with planets in the last degrees of Aries, from 26° onwards.

One more detail explains how the period feels. Across all five months Chiron covers less than five degrees, from 0°52′ Taurus back to 26°16′ Aries. It doesn't so much travel as pace the same patch of sky. Hence the thought that keeps returning: in this stretch, everything returns.

What Chiron in Taurus brings up — until September 18

Taurus is the sign of worth: money, the body, stability, the right to take up space without earning it first. Hence the themes that may surface:

"I'm only good when I'm useful." This is where the inability to rest without guilt comes from — a pause feels like a debt rather than a right.

"They won't pay me that much." The thought arrives before you name your price — and the price comes out lower.

"Something's wrong with my body." Not about health, but about constant comparison and the sense that you must fix yourself first and live afterwards.

"If I stop trying, there'll be nothing left to love me for." The quietest of them all, and the most expensive in its consequences.

What changes when Chiron returns to Aries — from September 18

Aries is the sign of beginnings, of will, of the right to want something first. In its final degrees Chiron raises a different wound: not about worth, but about permission to exist at all.

"It feels rude to want things." The wish arrives and is instantly translated into a question: am I allowed?

"If I start, they'll laugh." Which is why things stall at the idea stage rather than the working stage.

"If I'm angry, I must be a bad person." Aries anger is fuel. Forbid it and what fills the space is fatigue.

"I don't quite exist until someone notices me." The quietest sentence of the four, and the most exhausting.

The difference between the two halves of the period is simple. In Taurus the question is what am I worth; in Aries it is am I allowed. If August was about money and tiredness and the autumn turned it into courage and anger, that is not a mood swing. That is Chiron changing signs.

How it may show up across the five months

Most likely you'll notice a repetition rather than an event. The same thought will return in different costumes: in a conversation about money, in someone else's success in your feed, in the rest you keep postponing.

Physical echoes are possible too — the kind of tiredness sleep doesn't fix. In Taurus, the body tends to speak louder than words.

One particular marker of this period: the urge to prove. Taking on more projects, lowering your rate, agreeing to what doesn't suit you — anything to confirm you're needed. That's the wound driving instead of you.

What to do with it

Catch the exact wording. Not "I feel sad," but the precise sentence on repeat. It almost always has an author and an age. Half its force disappears once it stops being your own thought and becomes someone's old line.

Don't make money decisions at the peak of that thought. A retrograde stretch is a poor time to set your price: it will come out of an old belief rather than reality.

Notice where you already help others with this. People are usually best at exactly what they never received themselves. That's the other side of Chiron — and it works.

Give the body simple things. Sleep, food, movement with no "getting in shape" attached. Taurus heals through steadiness, not through insight.

Where to look for your own Chiron

The transit sets the theme, but the depth depends on your chart: which house Chiron sits in, which planets it approaches, and whether you have anything in two narrow bands — 0–1° Taurus and 26–30° Aries. The first band was live in August and early September; the second switches on from September 18 and holds until January. For one person this is background noise; for another it's the main story of the autumn.

In the Eira app, Chiron is covered in the karmic tasks section: where the point sits in your chart, what it means, and how its theme plays out in your life. Calculated from your date, time and place of birth — free during the trial.

Chiron through the houses: where it hurts, and where the theme moves in September

The sign tells you what the wound is about; the house tells you where you meet it. Until September 18, look for the house that holds Taurus in your chart; after that, the house that holds Aries. They are neighbours, so the theme simply moves back one house.

Read it by your Ascendant, or by your Sun sign if you don't know your birth time. Finding your houses is covered in How to read your natal chart. One caveat: in Aries, Chiron sits in the sign's very last degrees, so in house systems where houses don't line up with signs it may already stand on the threshold of the next house — which is where an exact birth time earns its keep.

Aries

Until September 18 — second house: money and possessions, where "not enough" is never about the amount but about the right to take up space. After that — first house, meaning you: how you present yourself, and how quickly you apologise for it.

Taurus

Until September 18 — first house: you. The body, appearance, the right to exist without improvement. After that — twelfth: the same thing turns inward and speaks when nobody else is in the room.

Gemini

Until September 18 — twelfth house: what is hidden, a wound almost invisible to others. After that — eleventh: it steps into your circle of friends, into the sense of being the spare person there.

Cancer

Until September 18 — eleventh house: friends and circles, "they tolerate me but don't choose me". After that — tenth: the same line moves into work and into the question of what exactly you are valued for.

Leo

Until September 18 — tenth house: career, and the feeling that people value the output rather than you. After that — ninth: the theme moves into belief and into the right to say out loud what you actually think.

Virgo

Until September 18 — ninth house: belief and learning, "I don't know enough to be allowed to speak". After that — eighth: it sharpens into trust, money and depending on someone else.

Libra

Until September 18 — eighth house: intimacy and trust, frightening to depend on anyone and frightening to owe. After that — seventh: the same thing stands opposite one specific person rather than life in general.

Scorpio

Until September 18 — seventh house: partnership, the wound surfacing next to someone close. After that — sixth: it moves into routine, work and the body, into the endless "I'm wanted while I'm useful".

Sagittarius

Until September 18 — sixth house: work and the body, "I'm wanted while I'm useful". After that — fifth: the theme moves into creative work and love, where you have to show what is yours rather than what is useful.

Capricorn

Until September 18 — fifth house: creative work and love, where showing what you made with your own hands is frightening. After that — fourth: the theme goes home, to family and to how people spoke to you as a child.

Aquarius

Until September 18 — fourth house: home and roots, the theme speaking in a parent's voice. After that — third: it moves into speech and your immediate circle, into conversations with siblings and colleagues.

Pisces

Until September 18 — third house: speech and the immediate circle, the sense of not being heard. After that — second: the theme turns financial, and the same sentence arrives at the moment you have to name your price.

What to do with a retrograde Chiron

Don't look for an event. The retrograde phase produces almost no outside triggers. If it is hard "for no reason," the transit is the reason.

Notice the phrasing, not the emotion. A Chiron wound speaks in ready-made sentences: "I'm not enough," "something is wrong with me," "I have to earn it." Hearing the sentence is half the work.

Don't rush to fix it. Chiron does not yield to willpower. It quietens when acknowledged, not when defeated.

Remember the timeframe. The retrograde runs until January 6, 2027, and the background stays the same throughout. That is not deterioration — it is a long phase.

Frequently asked questions

What does "retrograde" mean? It is an appearance: from Earth the planet seems to move backwards. Astrology reads such a phase as attention turning inward.

Is Chiron a planet? No. It is a small body between the orbits of Saturn and Uranus, discovered in 1977. Astrology reads it as a point of vulnerability and of the experience that grows out of it.

Why is Chiron called the wounded healer? From the myth: the centaur Chiron was a healer who could not cure his own wound. Hence the idea that people help others best in exactly the area where they hurt themselves.

How long does the retrograde last? About five months a year. In 2026 it runs from August 3 to January 6, 2027.

Is Chiron in Taurus the whole time? No — and this is the part most write-ups get wrong. Chiron stays in Taurus only until September 18, 2026 — six and a half weeks out of five months. After that it reverses through the last degrees of Aries until January 6. Chiron returns to Taurus in mid-April 2027, and that time it stays.

My software shows a different date. Why? Chiron is not a planet but a small body, and different ephemerides place it slightly differently. A day or two of disagreement around a sign change is normal. The dates in this article are calculated from NASA JPL Horizons ephemerides.

How do I know whether this is about me? By degree. The first half of the period touches charts with points at 0–1° Taurus; the second half touches charts with something at 26–30° Aries. The quickest way to check is your natal chart — and if your Chiron ties into the lunar nodes, the North Node and life purpose is worth reading too.
