Eira's Tip of the Day: how it works, why it's free

Eira's Tip of the Day is today's sky laid over your natal chart. Why two Aries get different tips, how to read yours, what not to expect, and why it stays free.

Eira's Tip of the Day: how it works, why it's free

Two friends, both Aries, swap their Tip of the Day over morning coffee. One is told about money: don't buy yourself a quick mood boost on the way to work. The other is told about her partner, and about who needs more attention today. "Isn't this just a random line, like a fortune cookie?" No. That is exactly why two people with the same sign get different tips on the same day.

The Tip of the Day is today's sky laid over your chart. Two to four sentences, new every day. Below: what goes into it, how to read it, what not to expect from it, and why it stays free.

What the Tip of the Day in Eira actually is

It is a short, one-day text built on two things: where the planets are right now, and how that lands on your natal chart (the map of the sky at the moment you were born). It is not a sun-sign horoscope, not a quote of the day, and not something pulled from a shared library of ready-made lines.

The key difference from a sun-sign horoscope is the starting point. A horoscope for Aries is written once for everyone born between March 21 and April 19 — roughly one in twelve people on the planet. The Tip of the Day is written for one person, and your sun sign is just one detail in it.

Where it comes from

The Moon sets the tone of the day

The Moon spends about two and a half days in each sign, and each time it moves through a different area of your chart — a house. Today it may be in one person's house of money and in another person's house of partnership. That is why the Moon shows up in almost every tip: nothing else changes the theme of the day as quickly.

If the Moon moves into the next sign in the middle of the day, a tip opened after that is written from scratch. A morning text about the previous sign would no longer be true by the evening.

The Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars

The fast-moving planets count too — specifically, which houses of your chart they are passing through right now. The Sun shows where most of your attention goes this month. Mercury covers conversations and decisions. Venus covers relationships, money and pleasure. Mars shows where you want to act and where you are most likely to snap. The slow planets are visible as well, but they sit in place for weeks and barely change the colour of any single day.

Contacts with your chart

A contact is when a planet in today's sky forms a meaningful angle to a planet in your chart: a conjunction, opposition, square, trine or sextile. These contacts shift from day to day. When today's Mars squares your natal Moon, you usually feel it before you can explain it — and the tip may name it.

Your chart is the background

Your chart doesn't answer "what is happening today". It answers "how will today land on you specifically". Your birth Sun, Moon and Ascendant are not the main characters of the tip; they are its colouring. The same Moon in your house of work reads differently for someone who needs order and for someone who needs freedom.

The tip is written the moment you open it — for you, for today's date. Nobody prepares it in advance for everyone. The planetary positions are calculated precisely, and the text itself is written from that data by Eira, the app's AI. We explained how this works for forecasts in general in How Eira builds your forecasts.

Why two Aries get different tips: an example for October 5

On October 5 the Moon is in Leo. The sign is the same for everyone, but the house is personal: which house Leo falls in depends on your time and place of birth, not on your sun sign.

For an Aries with Cancer rising, Leo usually sits in the second house — the house of money and of what you value. That person gets a tip about spending, and about the small pleasures money can buy. For an Aries with Aquarius rising, Leo falls in the seventh house — the house of partnership. Their tip will be about their partner, and about who gets to be the centre of attention today.

Both are Aries. Same sky. Different tips, because the Moon is moving through different houses of their charts. A sun-sign horoscope simply cannot see that difference.

How to read your Tip of the Day

An observation and an invitation

A tip usually has two parts. The first is an observation: what is going on in your chart right now and where your attention is drifting. The second is a gentle invitation: something to notice or try. It is not an order. If the invitation doesn't fit your day, the observation is still worth having.

Read it in the morning, check it at night

Read it in the morning; check in the evening whether it landed. Within a week you will see which themes keep coming back — and that is what is currently moving through your chart. A one-line note on your phone is enough: the theme of the tip and what actually happened. After two or three weeks those notes tell you more about your chart than any sun-sign description.

See it in your own chart

If the tip is about money, open your natal chart in Eira and check which sign sits on your second house and where the Moon is today. The connection becomes obvious. If houses are still new to you, start with our beginner's guide to reading a natal chart. If you want to understand why the Moon has such a strong pull on mood, we covered it in The Moon in your natal chart.

What not to expect from it

Predictions of the "today X will happen" kind. The tip doesn't promise events — it points to what deserves your attention and where not to waste your energy. If it mentions tension in conversations, that doesn't mean a fight is inevitable. It means today it is easier to let something go where you would normally argue.

Don't expect completeness either. Two to four sentences can't break the day down area by area — that is what the daily forecast is for. The tip usually picks one main theme and stays with it.

And one more thing: the tip doesn't diagnose anything, and it doesn't replace decisions you would make with a doctor, a lawyer or your bank.

Why the Tip of the Day is free

The daily forecast is part of the subscription: it is detailed and covers every area of life. The tip is short, and it is always open. During the free trial it doesn't use up any of your trial allowance, and after the trial it stays free with no end date. Everyone should have a reason to look at their chart, subscription or not.

The difference from the forecast is length, not the quality of the calculation: both use your chart and today's sky. The tip simply speaks to one main thing, while the forecast walks through the whole day.

Where to find it and what you need

On the home screen, open the "Personal recommendations" card and tap "Tip of the day". All you need is a built chart: your date, time and city of birth.

Birth time matters more than people think. Without it, the houses are approximate — the chart is built for noon, and a tip about a specific area of life can miss. Why that happens is explained in Why your natal chart needs your birth time.

The tip doesn't arrive as a notification; it waits for you in the app. It stays the same through the day, so you can reread it any time — until the Moon changes sign.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Tip of the Day in Eira a horoscope?

No. A horoscope is written for a sun sign — one text for millions of people. The Tip of the Day is built from today's sky and your natal chart: where the Moon is moving, which houses the fast planets are in, and what contacts they make with your own planets.

Why do my friend and I get different tips if we share a sign?

Because you have different charts. Your sun sign matches; your houses don't — they depend on time and place of birth. On the same day the Moon moves through different areas of life for each of you, and the tip describes yours.

Is the Tip of the Day really free forever?

Yes. During the trial it doesn't count against your allowance, and after the trial it stays open with no time limit. All it needs is a built natal chart.

How often does the tip update?

Once a day. If the Moon moves into the next sign during the day, a tip opened after that is rewritten for the new position.

Can I make decisions based on it?

The tip helps you notice what matters right now, but it doesn't decide for you. It doesn't promise events and doesn't replace common sense or professional advice. It works best as a question to carry through the day.

What if the tip doesn't match my day?

Write it down. One miss means nothing; over a week you will see which themes repeat. If you get a lot of misses, check the birth time in your profile — being off by an hour can shift the houses.
