Early in October, someone you haven't spoken to in a year may text you out of nowhere: "hey, how are you?" And you sit there for half an hour, phone in hand, not sure whether you even want this conversation.
Or something you were thrilled to buy in September starts to grate on you, and you can no longer remember why you chose it.
Or you catch yourself reopening an old project, an old CV, an old chat thread. Just to have a look.
That is the storyline of October 2026: things you thought were closed come back. Early in the month it is feelings, relationships and money; towards the end, conversations and agreements. October does bring new things too, but they arrive through a second look at the old ones rather than on a blank page. What changes in October 2026
The main event of the month is Venus. On 3 October she turns retrograde and stays that way until 14 November (retrograde means that, seen from Earth, a planet appears to move backwards across the sky). In a chart, Venus stands for what we like, who we choose and how much we are willing to give: love, money, taste. When she moves backwards, those themes don't disappear. They come back for review.
Late in the month Mercury joins her: on 24 October it turns retrograde too, until 13 November. Mercury rules words, agreements and paperwork. So the last week of October is one of those rare stretches when both "what I feel" and "what I said" are up for revision at the same time.
Here is how that tends to show up in real life. Two or three of these scenes will probably sound familiar; not all of them.
People come back
Exes, old friends, colleagues from a previous job. Some get in touch themselves; others simply start drifting into your thoughts for no clear reason. That doesn't mean you should restart anything. It means something was left unsaid, and it is easier than usual to settle it now, calmly and without drama.
You look again at what you already chose
A partner, a job, a flat, a style, the way you look. Things you liked without question a month ago now invite a closer look. Sometimes it turns out you chose what was expected rather than what was yours. Sometimes it's the opposite: what you already have is better than what you were chasing.
Money asks for a second look
Impulse buys in October tend to disappoint more than they delight. The reverse works well, though: return what you don't need, go through your subscriptions, remember who owes you and whom you owe.
You speak plainly, and get an old grudge back
Mars spends the whole month in Leo: anger comes out straight away, and you really want to be noticed (more in our piece on Mars in Leo). Meanwhile Venus is moving backwards. Hence a very October kind of scene: you say something direct and to the point, and the reply is a grievance from two years ago that has almost nothing to do with today.
Late in the month, words get tangled
From 24 October, emails go missing more often, meetings get moved, and agreements someone forgot about resurface. That is no reason to freeze. It is a reason to reread whatever you sign and to double-check what people actually meant.

1–4 October: the tensest start. On the 3rd, Venus stops and turns back, and on the same day Mars opposes Pluto: the question "who makes the call here?" gets sharp, and pushing for a win costs more than it's worth. On the 4th the Sun opposes Saturn, bringing tiredness and a sense that more is being asked of you than you can give. Heavy conversations are better moved back by at least a week.
10–11 October: the New Moon at 17°21′ Libra. A genuine starting point for anything to do with partnerships, contracts and compromise. On the 11th, Venus and Mars form a tense angle: desire and pride pull in different directions.
16 October: things start moving. Pluto, retrograde since early May, turns direct at 3°04′ Aquarius, and on the same day Mars makes a supportive angle to Saturn. A good day for long, stubborn work: what you begin now tends to hold.
23–26 October: the second busy stretch. On the 23rd the Sun enters Scorpio and the month turns deeper and quieter. On the 24th Mercury stations retrograde while the Sun meets Venus, the midpoint of her backward journey and the moment when an old story is easiest to see clearly. On the 25th Venus, still moving backwards, slips from Scorpio back into Libra. On the 26th comes the Full Moon at 2°46′ Taurus: what has been building since the start of the month comes to the surface.

Aries: shared money and old debts
Venus turns retrograde in your eighth house, the house of shared money, debts, loans and the kind of closeness where you genuinely depend on someone else. An old debt may resurface, or an unsettled money question with a former partner, or a talk about who puts in how much. On 25 October Venus moves back into your seventh house, and the theme becomes about the relationship itself. Saturn spends the month backing through your sign: if you were born in the very last days of March or the first days of April, a task you thought you had dealt with in spring comes back. Mars in your fifth house brings a playful, flirty, risk-taking mood. Gamble with your time, not your money.
Taurus: your partner, and a Full Moon in your sign
Venus, your ruling planet, turns retrograde in your seventh house of relationships and contracts. A partner, an ex, a business associate: with one of them you will have to go back to a conversation you thought was over. Hold off on final decisions until mid-November, when the picture will be more honest. The Full Moon on 26 October falls at 2°46′ Taurus, in your own sign, and it will be felt most by those born around 19–25 April. With Mars in your fourth house, patience at home and with family runs shorter than usual.
Gemini: work, routine and old habits
Venus moves backwards through your sixth house: work, daily life, health, everyday habits. A routine you dropped may return, or a colleague with whom things were never quite settled. On 24 October Mercury, your ruler, also turns retrograde in your sixth house, so in the last week of the month check work emails and deadlines twice. Mars in your third house makes your words sharper, especially in writing. Cancer: an old flame and your own worth
Venus turns retrograde in your fifth house: love, creativity, children, everything you do for the joy of it. A romance you thought was behind you may come back, or a hobby you abandoned. Give the first one time; with the second, just pick it up again. Mars in your second house raises questions of money and of how much you matter: you want your work recognised, in numbers as well as in words. Asking for a raise in October is fair, as long as you have your case ready. On 3 October the last-quarter Moon falls at 10°21′ Cancer, a good date to wrap up whatever has been dragging on since September.
Leo: the month you're in the spotlight
Mars and Jupiter are both in your sign, and on 3 October Jupiter crosses 20°02′ Leo, the degree of the August eclipse. What closed in August now opens up again, especially for those born around 9–15 August. On the same day Mars opposes Pluto, and people born 22–29 July feel the start of the month most sharply: a fight over power and control can flare up around you, and winning it at any cost doesn't pay. Virgo: words, messages and old threads
Mercury, your ruler, spends the whole month in your third house: conversations, messages, study, siblings, neighbours. On 24 October it turns retrograde, and Venus has been backing through the same house since the start of the month. Your key October move is to go back to what was said: apologise, clarify, finish what is still sitting in your drafts. Until the 23rd the Sun moves through your second house, money and how much you value yourself. Mars in your twelfth house pushes tiredness and anger inwards, so sleep and rest matter more than usual right now.
Libra: your season, without the rush
The Sun is in your sign until 23 October, and on 10 October the New Moon falls at 17°21′ Libra; for those born around 7–13 October this is a personal fresh start. But Venus, your ruler, is retrograde the whole time: from 3 October in your second house (money, self-worth), and from the 25th back in your own sign. Venus turns retrograde right in your sign, at 8°29′ Scorpio. Those born around 28 October to 3 November feel it most: old feelings, old hurts and the question "who am I in a relationship?" surface uninvited. Mercury is in your sign all month as well and stations retrograde at 20°58′ Scorpio on 24 October, which lands hardest for those born 10–16 November. Your season begins on 23 October, and the Full Moon on the 26th falls opposite the Sun of those born 23–29 October: someone else will show you what you hadn't noticed in yourself. Sagittarius: what's hidden, what's secret, and sleep
Venus moves backwards through your twelfth house, the most hidden part of the chart. Feelings you never told anyone about may come back, or a person you parted from without an explanation. This is a time for understanding rather than action. Mars in your ninth house calls you towards travel, study and arguments about principle, and there, unlike in your personal life, you can go boldly. Jupiter, your ruler, crosses the August eclipse degree in your ninth house on 3 October: plans for study and travel get a second chance. The Full Moon on the 26th, in your sixth house, means work and your body will demand attention.
Capricorn: career and old contacts
Until 23 October the Sun moves through your tenth house, and the 10 October New Moon falls there too: the best date of the month to start something in your career. Venus backs through your eleventh house, so old friends and former colleagues reappear, and work may come through them. On 3 October Mars opposes Pluto, and Pluto now sits at 3° Aquarius, so those born around 20–26 January find the start of the month the most intense. Until the 23rd the Sun moves through your eighth house of shared money and obligations. - The key degrees of the month. 8°29′ Scorpio (Venus stations), 20°58′ Scorpio (Mercury stations), 17°21′ Libra (New Moon), 2°46′ Taurus (Full Moon), 20°02′ Leo (Jupiter on the eclipse degree), and 3° Leo and Aquarius (Mars opposite Pluto). If any planet in your chart sits within three degrees of one of these points, October's story is yours, whatever your sign.
- Retrograde Venus in your birth chart. If you were born while Venus was retrograde, periods like this usually feel easier: reviewing things comes naturally to you. More in Retrograde planets in the natal chart.

What to do in October, and what to avoid
Worth doing:
- Close old loops: debts, unfinished conversations, postponed tasks. October is better suited to this than to launching anything new.
- Answer messages from the past calmly and not straight away. You can reply to put a full stop on something, not to start over.
- Return what you don't need; review subscriptions and spending.
- Start important things between 10 and 23 October, after the New Moon and before Mercury turns.
- After 24 October, reread what you sign and double-check what was agreed.
Better to avoid:
- Final decisions about a relationship in the first days of the month: around 3 October, emotions outweigh arguments.
- Big spending on a mood, or buying things "for a new me".
- Pushing an argument to victory at any cost, especially early in the month.
- Treating every message from an ex as a sign from the universe. Sometimes it's just a message.
