This is Venus retrograde. Retrograde means that, seen from Earth, a planet appears to move backwards. Venus does this from 3 October to 14 November, slipping back from 8°29′ Scorpio to 22°51′ Libra. Venus retrograde 2026: what changes
The short version. This isn't the time to start new things in love or money. It's the time to work out which of the old things you keep out of love, and which out of habit.
In any chart, Venus stands for what we value: people, things, pleasure, money and our own sense of worth. Moving forward, her job is to attract. Once she turns around, the job becomes testing.
Direct versus retrograde
When Venus moves direct, she pulls you towards the new: new people, new things, new pleasures. When she's retrograde, she takes you back to what you've already chosen and asks: "Is this really yours?"
That's why, for these six weeks, new things struggle to take root while old ones keep asking to be looked at again. A new connection can feel electric, and a month later you realise it wasn't really that person you were drawn to. An impulse buy will be hanging in the wardrobe with the tag still on by December. Meanwhile, whatever you've been putting off — a conversation, a decision, letting go of something you don't need — suddenly becomes clear.

What comes back up during Venus retrograde
People from the past — by message, in person, in dreams. Venus retrograde is famous for bringing exes back, but an "ex" can also be a friend, a colleague, or an earlier version of you. The message itself decides nothing. What matters is what you feel when you read it.
Jealousy and old hurts you thought were settled. Scorpio doesn't forget — it waits. Something you swallowed to keep the peace can burst out over a trivial thing, and with surprising force. It doesn't mean you're a bad person or that the relationship is falling apart. It means the question was never closed.
Money: debts, joint accounts, who pays for what. Venus rules money as well as love, and Scorpio is shared money: loans, the household budget, inheritance, support payments. Forgotten subscriptions surface, along with old debts and lopsided arrangements nobody wanted to mention.

4th house: home and family. Old family grievances, conversations with parents, questions about housing and renovation. A good time to clear the clutter at home and in your relationships with relatives, a poor one for a rushed move or a big furniture purchase.
Virgo
3rd house: messages, siblings. Old chats, things left unsaid, relatives you haven't spoken to in a while. Check what you send and to whom: a careless message carries more weight than usual these weeks.
Libra
2nd house: money and self-worth. Venus is your ruling planet, so you'll feel this period more sharply than most. "What am I worth?" applies both to your pay and to how people treat you. Review your spending and what you charge for your work, but don't make big purchases on impulse.
Scorpio
1st house: you and your appearance. Venus turns in your sign, so this period is about you personally. You may want to change your look overnight, but hold off on anything permanent: a haircut grows out, a tattoo doesn't. The real question is how you value yourself.
Sagittarius
12th house: hidden feelings. Something you won't admit even to yourself may surface: an old attachment, a quiet resentment, feelings for someone you don't talk about. Give yourself time alone to sort it out before you act.
Capricorn

9th house: study, travel, people from far away. Friends from other cities and countries get in touch, along with unfinished courses and places you've wanted to go back to. A trip to "where it was good" could turn out to be exactly right.
How to see Venus retrograde in your chart
Your Sun sign gives the general backdrop. Your birth chart is more precise. Three steps:
Step 1. Find the band. Wherever your chart has the stretch from 22°51′ Libra to 8°29′ Scorpio is where the theme will return. Open your chart and see which house that stretch falls in. If you're not sure how to read houses, start with our guide on how to read your natal chart.
Step 2. Check for planets in that band. If you have a planet there, Venus will cross it up to three times: first in September, backwards in October and November, then forwards again until mid-December. Born between 16 and 31 October? This period is about you personally, because your Sun is in the band. If your Moon, rising sign or Mars is there, you'll feel it strongly too.

What to do during Venus retrograde
- Review subscriptions, spending and agreements. Cancel what you don't use and be honest about where the money goes.
- Finish an old conversation if it really isn't finished. Not to get back together, but so you can stop carrying it around.
- Go back to something you loved and dropped: a hobby, a place, a person who was easy to be with.
- Sort through your wardrobe and belongings. Venus retrograde is good at showing you what you wear out of habit.
- Pay back or collect debts that have been hanging around.
What to avoid
- New loans, big purchases, dramatic changes to your appearance.
- Going back to an ex on a wave of emotion. If you want to text, wait until morning and ask yourself: do I miss the person, or the time?
